Cut and Restored String

A string is threaded through a soda straw as in figure 1. The straw and string are cut in half by a spectator, but the string is magically restored.

To perform, have your parents make a two inch slit in the center of the straw (figure 1). Thread a string through the straw and you are ready.

Take the straw and pull the string back and forth as if to center it. You are really looking for the slit.Grip the straw and bend as in figure 2. The slit is on the bottom.

Hold the straw as in figure 3 and pull on ends of the string as if trying to make the ends even.

Your fingers hide the fact that you are really pulling the string down through the slit (figure 4). Be sure the fingers and thumb cover this section of string (figure 3).

Have the spectator cut the top out of the straw (figure 4). Show freely on both sides (hiding the uncut string of course).

Bring the two pieces of straw together as in figure 5. Ask the spectator to pull on one end of the string. As he does so, the string is magically restored.
