Old magician's proverb states that a 12-year-old child can be an accomplished
magician if he's had 17-years practice. That's discouraging. But it is not
without an element of reality. To learn to
perform magic and not just a series of tricks requires a variety of skills. Top
magicians are entertainers. They know how to speak correctly, dress appropriately,
write, market, deal with business, and possess other skills not usually associated by the
lay public with magic.
They know how to take something simple and turn it into
something extraordinary. This does take time and practice. Most professional
magicians I know started with tricks like on the following pages. These are simple,
yet, if handled properly can amaze an audience.
From these simple tricks, you can start on the road to
becoming a magician. But don't just try to use them to fool an unsuspecting public.
Use them to amuse. Use them to amaze. Use them to entertain.
To learn more about magic is simple. Most of the
world's great magic exists in books. Visit your local library. Read.
Check the internet. Check the bookstore link at the bottom of the page. Then
find a magician. Check the yellow pages. Check my links. Magicians love to
share with other magicians. E-mail me if you are having a problem, but I'll bet you
can find someone willing to help you learn if you are willing to work.
